The other karas are the Kaitha south, Kannamangalam south, Kannamangalam north, Kannamangalam pela, Kadavoor .The Kaitha north also conducts the Erakkipooja at Kolasseril to memorise the point of place which is said to be the dwelling place of the then village chieftain of Kaitha north.

Kaitha north is believed that the village chieftains of chettikulangara , who brought the Bhagavathi to this temple through 12 days long prayers and committed efforts .It is the 4 kara of chettikulangara, it is situated in an erstwhile marsh lands.



Erezha north hyndava karayogam is the second kara in chettikulangara temple.The temple car is gigantic in size & colourful one.




Erezha south is the first kara of chettikulangara, and the people of Erezha south brings the largest kettukazcha at chettikulangara.The dancing 'lady dolls'attached to the prabhada of this kuthira is a speciality tho the kara.This is the first kuthira enter the field , the people of this kara brings the Mudi to the temple on the first day of Ethirelppu.


The people from 13 sub karas of chettikulangara will arrange for the processions one each for each kara.Generally it remains the same every year and accroding to them it will be 6 big chariots 5 smaller ones, 1 big idol of Bheema & another one of Hanuman. A small one of Panchali will always be there with Hanuman.

During the evening hours people from each area [ kara ] will pull the chariots from the construction sites to the temple.

The preperation for kumbha bharani starts 7 days before the actual day and incidentally that day will be the shivaratri.People who had pledged for Kuthiyottam will start training their children for the offering on that day .All these 7 days these peoples will host public get together and arrange food for them.These children will be taught a special dance steps called Kuthiyottam chuvadukal.


The main festival of chettikulangara devi temple is on the month of March - April.The date is determined accroding to the malayalam calander.In that this day comes in the month of kumbha and the day which has the star Bharani and hence the name Kumbha bharani.


Historical evidences reveal that the srikovil of the temple is about 480 years old & the chuttambalam dates back about two centuries.


Another story tells that this temple was constructed by Padmapadacharyar on the Uthrittathi day of makara month in the year 823.


The family heads of the region , decided to take it as their duty and performed 12 days long ' bhajan' to please the goddesses, Kodungallur bhagavathy .It is believed that Devi gave them ' swapna darasanam' next day , they returned to Chettikulangara with a sacred sword given by the Velichappadu of kodungallur temple and started civil works of the temple.


Accroding to the legend, once when some local cheiftains went to witness the annual festivals at the Koyapallikarazhma bhagavathi temple, they were humiliated and ridiculed by the Koyapalli karazhma temple authorities.Thus they thought of constructing a temple at Chettikulangara.


Chettikulanagara sree Bhagavathi temple is now under the control of the Travancore Devaswom board and is the second highest revenue earner next to sabarimala.


Chettilkulangara temple is located on the Kayamkulam - Mavelikara route.This temple dates back to over 1200 years. Chettikulangara temple is spread over 13 karas means villages.Temple is situated at the center of the first 4 karas Erezha north, Erezha south, Kaitha south & Kaitha north.
